(male announcer): this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: at 8. a developing story out in san jose. firefighters are battling a grass fire near the eastridge shopping center. witnesses say the fire is burning in a field at the southend of the shopping center near quimby road. you can see the heavy smoke. but mall officials say they have been told the fire does not pose a threat to the shopping center. helicopters have been dropping water over the blaze. reid-hillview airport. which is less than 2 miles from the fire says the airport and air traffic have not been affected. kron4 crews are on the way.

wild fires tonight. burning through coastal wilderness the spring fire in the tour counting. county.erupted thursday in the camarillo area and has nearly tripled in size since morning. growing to more than 43 square miles. fire officials says the 18- thousand acre fire is threatening as many as 4- thousand homes. and damaging more than a dozen other. right now -- the springs fire is 20-percent contained. no injuries have been reported and in northern california. crews reached full containment on the 125-acre blaze- called the yellow fire - in sonoma county. and a 200-acre fire in glenn county. a separate brush fire broke out in the hills of southern california in the city of glendale. it prompted more evacuations. the fire north of state route two. spread across the freeway and uphill. and now other nearby a freeway shutdown between the 1-34 and the 2-10 is causing a traffic back up.
